This unique performance explores the connection between music and wine, and how both express their origins – what the French call “terroir.” In wine, terroir refers to the deep imprint of soil, climate, and tradition on a wine’s character. Just as Finger Lakes wines carry the distinct imprint of steep slate soils and deep lakes, each composer speaks from their cultural “soil,” shaping their work through the influences of their environment.

As we trace the evolution from Mozart’s classical foundations through modern innovation, we’ll also explore the Finger Lakes wine region’s own evolution – from its roots in traditional Riesling to its growing reputation for bold experimentation.
